Thunderbirds Tear Continues with 9-0 Triumph
|
The Phoenix Thunderbirds picked up a win at Legednary Park, knocking off the Kansas City Athletics, 9-0. On the mound for Phoenix was left-hander Matt Nyholm. He played a key role in the triumph. In 7.1 innings, Nyholm surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 0. He allowed no runs. Now 47-28, the Thunderbirds have won 12 games in a row.
James Vientos had a big 2-run home run for the Thunderbirds in the bottom of the second inning. With Phoenix leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from 34-year old left-handed pitcher Eddie Palomino and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Thunderbirds on top, 4-0.
"That was a really good outing by Matt," said Phoenix manager Joe Busch.
