Cortes Jacks Two Home Runs in 10-5 Chicago Win
|
The Chicago Phantoms knocked off the Houston Aquas by the score of 10-5. Luis Cortes provided some pop, going 2-for-3 with 2 home runs. Abdi Bitok picked up the win, lifting his record to 5-0 on the season. He struck out 5 and walked 2 in 6.2 innings, while yielding 3 runs. Simone Banatoni, who finished 5th in the WC in saves with 35 in 2076, earned the save for Chicago.
With Chicago leading 1-0 in the top of the fifth, Cortes came up to bat against Houston pitcher Armando Montoya. Cortes hit a changeup to right-center for a grand slam home run. His 25th home run of the season put the Phantoms on top, 5-0.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Cortes told the Chicago Daily News. "You win just by scoring more runs."
The win puts the Phantoms at 43-32, while the Aquas drop to 48-27.
