The Portland Dragons downed the Las Vegas Aces, 4-1, at Portland Park. Stellar pitching by Tsunesaburo Kai had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 7th in the WC with a 2.98 ERA, handcuffed his opponent all game. The loss makes Las Vegas 39-36.
The Dragons got a big at-bat from left fielder Shigenobu Shimamoto. For the game, Shimamoto was 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 13th home run of the season gave Portland a 3-1 lead.
"Clutch hitting plus clutch pitching usually equals a win," said Shimamoto.
