Shimamoto Launches 2 Dingers, But San Diego Wins
The San Diego Destroyers weathered a fine game by Portland left fielder Shigenobu Shimamoto to upend the Dragons, 8-6, at Portland Park. Shimamoto hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. San Diego reliever Teh-huai Yap picked up the win, while Justin Kurth took the loss for Portland. The first-place Destroyers improved to 42-32.

The result might have been different, had it not been for 26-year old left fielder Don Zufelt. Zufelt had a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Destroyers ahead, 7-6. For the game, Zufelt had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"In this profession, you've got to put the good and the bad behind you quickly," Portland skipper Greg Carpenter said.
