Las Vegas Downed, 5-3, by Friars
|
The San Francisco Friars took Las Vegas pitcher Kurt Bozek's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Western Coliseum. The final score had San Francisco getting past the Aces, 5-3. Bozek went 6.2 innings and allowed 3 runs, striking out 7. San Francisco reliever Ricky Fierro picked up the win to move to 3-2. Roberto Sotomayor suffered the loss. The Friars saw their record improve to 34-38.
San Francisco used the timely hitting of Manny Alaniz to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the 14th inning to put the Friars on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"There's no quit in this team," said Friars manager Erich Weatherholt.
