Thunderbirds Earn 6-5 Win Versus Cincinnati
|
Both teams had their chances, but the Phoenix Thunderbirds eventually prevailed.
The Phoenix Thunderbirds besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Cincinnati left fielder Matt Lawson by beating the Twins, 6-5, at Legednary Park. Lawson went 2-3 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Phoenix reliever John Intriago, who finished 3rd in the WC in saves with 36 in 2071, was credited with the win. His record goes to 5-1. Jaime Zuniga took the loss for Cincinnati.
First Baseman Joaquin Yanqui made an impact for Phoenix, when he swatted a 2-run double off Craig Kruppenbacher in the bottom of the fourth. For the contest, Yanqui went 1 for 2 with a double and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Yanqui told the Phoenix Observer.
The second-place Thunderbirds have won 6 straight games.
