Athletics Keep Chugging, Win, 6-1
|
Behind an impressive start by Gerald Tanton, Kansas City beat Tucson, 6-1. The winning pitcher was Tanton, now 7-4. He tossed 6 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 8. Kansas City now sits at 43-27, while Tucson falls to 30-40.
Jerry Gomez had a big run-scoring double for the Athletics in the top of the fourth inning. With Kansas City leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Ken Shearn and swatted a double to center. It was his 16th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Athletics ahead, 2-0.
"This game can get contagious when you're going good offensively," said Kansas City manager Joe Monagle.
