Murillo Launches 2 Dingers, But Los Angeles Wins
|
The Stars just keep winning.
Tucson designated hitter Mario Murillo had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Murillo was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice, even as Los Angeles beat the Toros, 7-5. Rin Sakai, who finished 2nd in the WC in wins with 15 in 2075, was the winning pitcher. Over 8 innings, he allowed 5 runs on 6 hits, with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. Adam Mimnaugh notched his 1st save of the season.
The Stars got a big at-bat from left fielder Chris Brankin. For the game, Brankin went 3 for 4 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 13th home run of the season gave Los Angeles a 6-5 lead.
"We'll hit the hot tub in good spirits tonight," said Brankin.
The Stars, now 42-27, have won 12 in a row.
