Dragons Tag Destroyers with 9-6 Loss
|
A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Portland Dragons and San Diego Destroyers.
The Portland Dragons beat the San Diego Destroyers at Portland Park. The final score was 9-6, in favor of Portland. Evan Salimbene led the way, going 1-for-2 for the home team. Portland reliever Shuzo Morishita got the win, raising his record to 2-0. Gary Banks was tagged with the loss.
Tadashi Shimizu had a big bases-clearing double for the Dragons in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Portland trailing 5-3 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 36-year old left-handed pitcher Oeke Endal and swatted a double to center. It was his 13th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Dragons ahead, 6-5.
"See ball, hit ball. When I think too much, that's when I get in trouble," Salimbene told the Portland Today.
The third-place Dragons hiked their record to 34-34.
