Fans of the Minneapolis Vikings who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Minneapolis win over the visiting Los Angeles Stars, 4-2. Devon Jenkins started for the home team against Mike Merdinger. Mike Merdinger earned accolades for his performance. The win belonged to Micah Schull in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Bryan Golladay took the loss for Los Angeles.
Minneapolis took a 4-2 lead on Tony Pineda's 1st double of the season. The 2-run double, which Pineda hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Los Angeles pitcher Javy Alamillo visibly frustrated.
After the game, Minneapolis manager Ace Cooan applauded the team's effort. "They busted their humps out there," he said.
