Cooper Belts 6 Hits Saturday, July 6th , 2086 A jubilant Karl Cooper joined the postgame press conference at Portland Park to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Portland Dragons pitching staff he had just vanquished. "It may not have looked like it," said the Phoenix Thunderbirds first baseman, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different." That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 6-for-8 hitting performance, which led to the 9-6 Thunderbirds win. "He made it look easy," said Greg Carpenter, manager of the Dragons. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously." Karl Cooper doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, flied out in the 7th, singled in the 8th, hit an RBI single in the 10th, flied out in the 12th and hit a three-run home run off Danny Monroy in the 14th. Posting a .334 batting average to date, Cooper has 18 home runs and 66 RBIs. View Boxscore View Game Log Watch Highlights |
