Kansas City Wins, 5-3, in Extra Innings
The Kansas City Athletics faced a tough opponent in Phoenix pitcher Jay Barrientos, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Legednary Park by a final score of 5-3 in 15 innings. Barrientos went 7.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. Kansas City pitcher Mark Curry got the win, upping his record to 1-0. Rafael Morales got the loss. Bobby Mitchell recorded his 1st save for Kansas City.

Kansas City used the timely hitting of Eddie Simon to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 15th inning to put the Athletics on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 7 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"It took some blood and sweat, but we got what we were after," said Athletics manager Joe Monagle.

The win takes Kansas City to 3-4.
