Stars Prevail, 3-2, Over Houston
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Los Angeles Stars and the Houston Aquas, Juan Fonseca, who led the WC in innings pitched with 237.0 last year, was the difference-maker. The Los Angeles right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. In 7 innings, Fonseca surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run. The Stars raised their record to 4-2.
The Stars got a big at-bat from shortstop Jeremy Chickering. For the game, Chickering went 1-3 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 1st double of the season gave Los Angeles a 2-0 lead.
"I think every team will tell you that the pitching sets the tone, especially the starters," said Los Angeles skipper Pat Kaers.
