Big Day at the Plate for Oregon Not Enough for Thunderbirds

Emilio Oregon did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Phoenix Thunderbirds from being beaten, 9-6, to the Los Angeles Stars at Stars Ballpark. Oregon was 1 for 2 with a home run and 3 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Jimmy Oyola was the winner. Over 7 innings, he yielded 2 runs on 4 hits, with 5 walks and 4 strikeouts. With this game in the books, Los Angeles is 29-34, Phoenix 27-35.
Danny Serrano had a big grand slam home run for the Stars in the bottom of the first inning. With Los Angeles leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he sized up a fastball from Eikki Hostikka, who finished 2nd in the WC in strikeouts with 203 last year, and punished it. The result was his 4th home run of the season, which put the Stars on top, 6-0.
"The fans pay the tickets and help us do what we do, so we like to put on a show for them," Serrano told the Los Angeles Gazette.
