Metropolitanos Send Toronto Home with 1-0 Loss
|
The first-place Havana Metropolitanos picked up another win.
The Havana Metropolitanos converted a terrific effort from starter Bobby Alkire into a win over the Toronto Juggernauts at Estadio Latinoamericano. The Metropolitanos won the game by a final score of 1-0. Alkire, now 2-1, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 0, and allowing no runs. Jon Dehmer, credited with the save, is now 1 for 2 in save opportunities.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Metropolitanos had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when catcher Andy Gonzales hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Fisko Loera and made the score 1-0, Metropolitanos. Gonzales was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk.
"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Gonzales.
The Metropolitanos go to 38-22, putting them first in the Eastern Conference Benito Cossutta Division.
