9-7 Win for Portland in Extras
|
Alaska right fielder Tillmam Velado had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 9-7, to Portland in 10 innings. Velado slugged 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice. Reliever Oscar Mercado picked up the win. His record improves to 2-2. Xiang-ling Khoo took the loss. With this game in the books, Portland is 28-30, Alaska 30-27.
The Kodiaks had been locked in a 7-7 tie with the Dragons going into the top of the tenth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old catcher Min-chor Ann came to the plate. Ann hit a run-scoring double on a 1-2 cutter from Alaska hurler Xiang-ling Khoo. It was Ann's 8th double of the year.
Dragons manager Greg Carpenter wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
