Starting pitcher Susumu Shibuya pitched well enough to help the Santiago Avispas beat the Montreal Harfangs, 6-3. The second-place Avispas hiked their record to 31-26.

Had Mayumi Watanabe not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Watanabe hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Avispas.

Watanabe said his team "played with focus and determination."
