Toros Cuff Thunderbirds, 14-1
|
A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Tucson Toros and Phoenix Thunderbirds.
The Tucson Toros beat the Phoenix Thunderbirds at Aetna Stadium. The final score was 14-1, in favor of Tucson. Jose Pedroza led the way, going 4-for-4 for the home team. Miguel Moquete got the win, improving to 5-3. He held the Thunderbirds to 1 run on 4 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 9 and walking 0.
Jake Doctor had a big grand slam home run for the Toros in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Tucson leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he sized up a screwball from Carlos Torres, who is tied for 2nd in the WC in complete games with 1, and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Toros on top, 5-0.
"That was brutal," said losing manager Joe Busch. "It'll probably keep me awake all night."
At 26-30, Tucson is in 4th place in the Western Conference Duviel Zaldivar Division.
