Behind the big bat of right fielder Mayumi Watanabe, the Santiago Avispas have opened up a healthy early lead in the Divisional Series. The Avispas topped the Brooklyn Browns, 5-0, at Estadio Guillermón Moncada in Game 2, and now hold a 2-0 edge in the best-of-7 series. Watanabe went 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice to power Santiago to victory.

Watanabe had an important at-bat with a runner on 1st in the bottom of the sixth, when he hit a 2-run home run. The Avispas went on to win.

"We're not going to sweep 'em," Watanabe said in response to a question after the game. "Brooklyn is too good not to take a game somewhere."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Estadio Guillermón Moncada in Santiago de Cuba.
