Chicago turned a good effort from starter Jake Orthman into a win over the Phoenix Thunderbirds at Legednary Park. The Phantoms won the game, 3-2. Orthman, who is tied for 8th in the WC in strikeouts with 65, went the distance for Chicago. He gave up 2 runs on 3 hits. The losing skid has reached 7 games for Phoenix.
Alberto Guardiola came through with a big-time hit for Chicago. The center fielder smacked a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 3-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"We just can't get over the hump," said losing manager Joe Busch.
