San Diego pitcher Arturo Covarrubias had a large part in his team beating the Alaska Kodiaks, 8-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. San Diego, at 81-77, holds down third place in the Western Conference Eddie Izurieta Division.

Jesus Castillo had a big 2-run double for the Destroyers in the bottom of the first inning. With San Diego leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from B.J. Terriquez, who is tied for 10th in the WC with a 8.8 K/9 rate, and swatted a double to right. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Destroyers ahead, 3-0.

"Arturo gave us everything he had," said San Diego manager Steve Alstadt.
