4-2 Win Takes Gaedels to 24-23
|
The St. Louis Gaedels topped the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 4-2, in Eastern Conference action at Legednary Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of St. Louis pitcher Andres Anguiano. Anguiano, the winner, moves to 6-2. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 1 and giving up 2 walks. The Gaedels, at 24-23, sit in second place in the Eastern Conference Kamuzu Division.
The Thunderbirds had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Gaedels going into the top of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the former first round draft pick Chris Fonville came to the plate. Fonville hit a 2-run double on a 0-1 fastball from Phoenix hurler Julio Carpinteyro. It was Fonville's 11th double of the year.
"I was just taking it batter by batter, just enjoying the moment," said Anguiano.
