Friars Stop Thunderbirds, 6-2
|
San Francisco Friars starter Kelvin Vaquera pitched a strong game against the Phoenix Thunderbirds at Legednary Park, leading the Friars to victory, 6-2. Vaquera, now 2-5, was the winner. In 8.1 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. By defeating Phoenix, the last-place Friars improved to 19-30.
Hank Snook drove in one run for San Francisco. The 24-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the top of the fourth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Henry Escobedo. It was his 14th RBI of the season.
"Kelvin throwing strikes, pounding the zone, that is exactly what you want to see," said San Francisco manager Erich Weatherholt.
