The Chicago Phantoms turned back the Alaska Kodiaks, 7-6, at Tundradome. Luis Cortes, in particular, had a fine performance. He went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Chicago reliever Bill Lawson got the win, raising his record to 2-0. Roberto Banda was tagged with the loss. Danny Galaviz earned the save for Chicago.

Alberto Guardiola went 1-3 with 2 walks for Chicago. The slick-fielding center fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the ninth. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 6-6 tie with a run-scoring walk off Bill Mauck. It was his 24th walk of the season.

Cortes told the Chicago Daily News: "I don't know which I enjoy more -- being a ballplayer or the perks that come with being a ballplayer."

The loss makes Alaska 22-25.
