The Houston Aquas overcame a pretty good performance by San Diego right fielder Don Zufelt, beating the Destroyers, 6-5, at Seaward Stadium. Zufelt went 4 for 5 with a home run and 2 doubles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Axel Mendiola was the winner. Over 6 innings, he yielded 2 runs on 5 hits, with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. Jeff LeCheminant earned the save for Houston.

Bobby Badeaux went 1 for 4, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Houston. The four-time All-Star had a key at-bat in the top of the fourth. With no one out and runners on 1st and 2nd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring single off B.J. Terriquez. It was his 53rd hit of the season.

"We found a way to get it done," Badeaux said.

The first-place Aquas now have a win-loss record of 27-17.
