Rangers Upend Avispas, 4-1
|
Buffalo pitcher Alcides Zaldivar had a large part in his team subduing the Santiago Avispas, 4-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Zaldivar, now 4-1, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 4, walking 4, and allowing 1 run. The first-place Rangers now have a win-loss record of 26-17.
The Rangers got a big boost from catcher Merlin Garbie who had a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the first inning off Avispas hurler Salvador Romero. It was his 15th walk of the season and put Buffalo on top, 1-0.
In postgame remarks, Zaldivar hailed his team's "single-minded focus."
