Houston Aquas right-hander Axel Mendiola pitched a good game against the Phoenix Thunderbirds at Tesoro Stadium, leading his team to victory, 5-3. Picking up his 1st save was 29-year old left-handed pitcher Pascual Fassi. The first-place Aquas lifted their record to 25-19.

Craig Lightsey had a big bases-clearing double for the Aquas in the bottom of the first inning. With Houston leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Henry Escobedo and swatted a double to right. It was his 12th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Aquas ahead, 4-0.

"It's good to win," Mendiola told the Houston Daily. "I like to have fun doing it."
