Havana 27-14 After 5-1 Victory
|
The Havana Metropolitanos earned a win at The ESPN Zone, stopping the Washington Senators, 5-1. Starting pitcher Benito Cossutta played a big role in his team's success. In 7.2 innings, Cossutta surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. With the win over Washington, the Metropolitanos improved to 27-14.
Mario Murillo came through with a big-time hit for Havana. The pinch hitter smacked a grand slam home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 5-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"The only difference is executing pitches and not executing pitches," said Cossutta. "When you don't execute, you get beat. When you execute, you usually give your team a chance to win."
