Wolves Defeat Friars, 9-5
|
The bad news for the San Francisco Friars: an opening day loss, 9-5, to the Vancouver Wolves at Staples Field. The good news: it was just game one in a long season. No one played better than Osmel Rivera. He was 1-1 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Vancouver reliever John Gulley picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Joe Drum absorbed the loss.
The game was all tied up in the top of the tenth, until Rivera delivered big-time for Vancouver, stroking a dramatic grand slam home run off Jake Latimer. The game-changing hit put the Wolves on top, 9-5.
"Anytime you're seeing it well, it's a good feeling," Rivera told the Vancouver Daily.
