The home crowd had a good time watching the Brooklyn Browns and Santiago Avispas get after it.

Behind the bravura of first baseman Homer Hanes, the Santiago Avispas topped the Brooklyn Browns by the score of 5-0. Hanes was 2-4 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 for the Avispas. Satoru Sugimoto notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. His record now sits at 1-0.

There was more than one reason the Avispas beat the Browns, but Hanes's big at-bat in the bottom of the first was an important factor. He staked his team to a 1-0 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
