The Chicago Phantoms did just enough to sneak past the Tucson Toros, 3-2, at Foster Field. Chicago pitcher Juzo Matsumoto, in particular, had a standout performance. The winning pitcher was Matsumoto, now 5-4. He tossed 5 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 4. Chicago, at 69-71, sits in 4th place in the Western Conference Michael Fridy Division.

The Phantoms got a big at-bat from center fielder Alberto Guardiola. For the game, Guardiola went 1-4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 4th home run of the season gave Chicago a 2-1 lead.

"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Guardiola told the Chicago Citizen. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
