A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Kansas City Athletics and Los Angeles Stars.
The Kansas City Athletics defeated the Los Angeles Stars, 6-2, in Western Conference action at Ballpark of Missouri. Kansas City pitcher Josh Breaux had a standout performance. The winner was Breaux. He threw 6.2 innings of 3-hit ball. The loser was Hector Bazaldua. Earning the save was Alex Esquibel. He's now cashed in 3 of 4 save opportunities.
Tom Schwartzmiller had a big 2-run home run for the Athletics in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Kansas City trailing 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a curveball from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Hector Bazaldua and punished it. The result was his 4th home run of the season, which put the Athletics on top, 2-1.
Kansas City manager Joe Monagle was pleased with the team's effort. "It was just a good, gutsy performance by everybody," he said.
The last-place Athletics hiked their record to 60-79.
