Wolves Drop 7-2 Decision
|
The first-place Minneapolis Vikings took on the Vancouver Wolves in front of a spirited crowd.
The Minneapolis Vikings got a strong performance from pitcher Erik Garcia, who stymied the Vancouver offense en route to a win, 7-2, at Minneapolis Grounds. Garcia, the winner, moves to 9-5. He threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 2 walks.
Joe Bird had a big grand slam home run for the Vikings in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Minneapolis leading 3-2 and the bases loaded, he sized up a splitter from Raul Garibaldi, who finished 4th in the WC in strikeouts with 201 last year, and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Vikings on top, 7-2.
Afterward, Vancouver manager Zach Meinen said: "We've hit a rough patch."
The third-place Wolves have lost 4 consecutive games.
