Rangers Get Past Washington for 5-4 Win
|
The Buffalo Rangers beat the Washington Senators, 5-4, in part because of first baseman Bobby Rojas. He was 3-4 with a triple, 2 doubles, and a walk, while scoring 4 runs. The win went to Nees van Santen in relief, making him now 1-0. Julio Mendoza took the loss for Washington. With the victory, the Rangers upped their record to 25-13.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Charlie Cole came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Washington pitcher Julio Mendoza, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Buffalo on top, 5-4.
"I was a little disappointed," said Washington manager Josh Cooan. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
