The Portland Dragons picked up a win at Portland Park, knocking off the Denver Glaciers, 6-4. Starting pitcher Oscar Mercado played a key role in the triumph. The winning pitcher was Mercado, now 16-4. He tossed 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 9. Charlie Petipas was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 23 of 26 save opportunities.
The Dragons got a big at-bat from third baseman Eddie Duarte. For the game, Duarte went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 19th double of the season gave Portland a 4-3 lead.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Portland manager Greg Carpenter.
With the win, Portland raised its record to 79-53.
