The Phoenix Thunderbirds beat the Portland Dragons, 11-6 -- though it took them 11 innings. Phoenix left fielder Billy Morf had a pretty good game. He went 2 for 5 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. Phoenix reliever Art Christenbury was the winner. His record is now 1-1. The losing pitcher was Luke Torres. By defeating Portland, the third-place Thunderbirds improved to 68-63.

The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Rafael Vasco came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Portland pitcher Jimmy Witmer, he hit a first pitch sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Phoenix on top, 7-6.

"Baseball is such a beautiful game," said Morf. "Anything can happen on any night, and that's why you don't dwell on what happened yesterday. Just look forward and trust you're going to have positive results."
