Fans witnessed a whale of a game between the Portland Dragons and Phoenix Thunderbirds.

The Portland Dragons topped the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 5-4, at Portland Park. Portland first baseman Jordan Flores was a spark plug for the offense. He was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Damian Mares, the winner, goes to 5-2. He allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts over 5 innings. Charlie Petipas, who is tied for 4th in the WC in saves with 22, nailed down the save.

The Dragons got a big at-bat from designated hitter Jairo Cedillo. For the game, Cedillo was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 28th home run of the season gave Portland a 2-0 lead.

"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Portland manager Greg Carpenter.

Portland, now 77-52, holds down second place in the Western Conference Eddie Izurieta Division.
