Rengifo Reaches 2000
St. Louis's Geri Rengifo got the standing ovation -- but the San Francisco Friars got the win.

It was a special day for him at Staples Field. A day when Rengifo notched hit #2000 of his career. The fans went wild when he did. Even the Friars fans applauded.

The Gaedels right fielder went 1-for-3 in a losing cause as San Francisco spoiled the party with the 6-4 victory.

In the postgame interview, a downhearted Rengifo told the media, "We lost -- It's not about individual accomplishments -- we lost."

When pressed further, he admitted his pride in reaching the 2000-hit mark, "A lot of great players never get there. I'm proud, but I would be happier if we had won."

Over his career Rengifo is batting .278 with 226 home runs and 930 RBIs. In 1882 games he has delivered 2000 hits, scored 1182 runs, stolen 148 bases and gotten on base at a .366 clip.
