Destroyers Deal Thunderbirds Painful Loss
San Diego beat Phoenix at Seaward Stadium, eking out a 6-5 win. The triumph was primarily due to left fielder Edgar Malhado. He was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. San Diego reliever Mike Kostin snagged the win, upping his record to 3-1. Danny Reyes shouldered the loss. The Destroyers now have a record of 68-61 with the win over Phoenix.

Matthew Allen was the walk-off hero for San Diego. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Destroyers shortstop hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"This place was jumping at the end," Allen said.
