Wolves Take Tight Tangle
|
The Vancouver Wolves outlasted Taiji Taira and the New York Titans, 8-7. Taira was impressive in the loss. The New York catcher went 5-5 with 5 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Nick Campbell, who is tied for 9th in the WC in holds with 11, was the winner in relief. His record is now 2-4. The losing pitcher was Pierre Prent. The third-place Wolves lifted their record to 66-62.
The decisive blow was delivered by Per Fronteira in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a 2-run home run off 31-year old left-handed pitcher Pierre Prent to win the game for Vancouver. The home crowd went nuts.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said New York manager Nate Beckman. "But we decided not to take it."
