Kodiaks Rally to Nose Past Tucson
|
The Alaska Kodiaks grabbed a win, 5-4, over the Tucson Toros at Aetna Stadium. Alaska left fielder Jose Fierro went 3-5 with a triple and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The win was credited to 26-year old right-handed pitcher Bill Zamora in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Jonathan Linebaugh took the loss. The first-place Kodiaks are now 82-43, the Toros 55-70.
Fierro had a game-changing triple in the top of the ninth. On a full count fastball from Ray Broekhuizen, he banged a run-scoring triple to center, giving the Kodiaks a 5-4 lead. It was the 10th triple of the year for Fierro.
"There's ebbs and flows in the season and right now we're just looking to finish strong," said Fierro.
