Avispas Winners, 2-0, Over Metropolitanos
|
Starting pitcher Jose Nereida gave the Santiago Avispas a rock-solid effort. The Plasencia, Spain native helped his team defeat the Havana Metropolitanos, 2-0, at Estadio Latinoamericano. The Avispas, at 67-57, sit in second place in the Eastern Conference Zach Gavula Division.
Santiago used a well-timed hit by Yem Batista to capture the win. The left fielder socked a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to put the Avispas ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"We did just enough to win," Nereida said.
