Thunderbirds Get Close Win Over Twins, 7-6
|
The Phoenix Thunderbirds withstood an impressive performance by Cincinnati first baseman Walter Gravel to defeat the Twins, 7-6, at Cincinnati Grounds. Gravel went 2 for 3 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Phoenix now has a record of 65-58 with the win.
Case Lafourcade went 1-3 with a walk and was hit by a pitch, while adding 2 RBI for Phoenix. With one out and the game tied in the top of the ninth inning, Lafourcade, who is the 2nd-best prospect in the Thunderbirds organization, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Cincinnati hurler Edwin Vazquez, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run to give the Thunderbirds a 7-6 lead.
"As well as we've been playing, I think we can play even better," said Phoenix manager Joe Busch.
