Vikings Stymie Montreal, Take 7-1 Win
|
Erik Garcia was outstanding against Montreal. The left-hander, who is tied for 4th in the WC in complete games with 1, had a changeup that was virtually unhittable at times. The result was a Vikings 7-1 win. Garcia, the winner, moves to 8-5. He threw 6.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 11 and giving up 2 walks. The win makes Minneapolis 72-48.
Javy Trinidad had a big 2-run home run for the Vikings in the bottom of the second inning. With Minneapolis leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a curveball from Su-shun Nie, who is tied for 6th in the EC in wins with 11, and punished it. The result was his 10th home run of the season, which put the Vikings on top, 3-0.
Said losing manager Brendan Henry: "Obviously, we wished for a better outcome."
