Friars Drop Toros, 5-4
|
The San Francisco Friars defeated the Tucson Toros, 5-4, at Staples Field. Sean Oehlert, who led the WC in batting average with .358 last year, was a standout performer for San Francisco. His 2 hits included 1 single and 1 double -- this in addition to the 1 run he scored and 3 he knocked in. Jose Andrades, now 5-1, was credited with the win in 0.2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 1. San Francisco bumps their record to 58-61 with the win.
Had DeMario Custodio not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Custodio hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Friars.
"Both teams played hard," said San Francisco manager Erich Weatherholt.
