The Boston Greens withstood an impressive performance by Phoenix designated hitter Karl Cooper to defeat the Thunderbirds, 8-7, at Legednary Park. Cooper went 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Miko Hakala was credited with the save for Boston, his 10th of the season. The third-place Greens hiked their record to 57-59.

Boston won the game in part because of Henry Sosa. The left fielder ripped a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Greens ahead, 8-1. For the game, Sosa had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.

"It wasn't our best performance," said Sosa, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
