Browns Claim 3-2 Triumph
|
In a tight tilt between Brooklyn and Portland, pitcher Matt Pontius was a key contributor. The left-hander earned accolades for his standout performance in the 3-2 Browns win. Pontius, the winner, moves to 4-1. He threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 2 walks. Nate Yakovlev earned save number 7 this season.
Brooklyn used the timely hitting of Victor Yero to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Browns on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Matt was doing a good job pouring in strikes," said Brooklyn manager Jason Cormier.
Brooklyn is in 4th place in the Eastern Conference Walker Division with a record of 16-21.
