Friars Beat Stars, 4-2
|
San Francisco starter Ron Gelsomino pitched well against the Los Angeles Stars at Staples Field. The left-hander led his team to a win, 4-2. The win went to Jose Andrades in relief. His record improves to 4-1. Luis Castillo took the loss. Jose Alonzo was called on to finish, recording his 7th save.
Had Sean Oehlert not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Oehlert hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Friars.
In postgame remarks, Oehlert hailed his team's "mettle."
The 4th-place Friars hiked their record to 57-60.
