Harfangs Win Squeaker, 4-3, Over Destroyers
|
San Diego got a terrific performance from pitcher Yoshino Yada, but it wasn't enough to beat the Montreal Harfangs. Montreal won the Mount Royal Park contest, 4-3. Yada threw 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Montreal reliever Jorge Baeza was the winner. His record is now 4-4. Chris Whiffen took the loss. Manny Arango earned his 4th save, after closing out the game.
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic-born Jose Gonzales came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Harfangs trailing 2-1, he hit a 2-run single to center to put Montreal on top.
In postgame remarks, Gonzales hailed his team's "mettle."
San Diego is in the throes of a losing streak which has reached 9 games.
