Rangel Helps Stars Defeat Glaciers, 10-5
|
Mountain Dew Park was the site for Western Conference action featuring the Denver Glaciers and Los Angeles Stars.
The Los Angeles Stars topped the Denver Glaciers, 10-5, at Mountain Dew Park. Los Angeles second baseman Ricky Rangel was a spark plug for the offense. He went 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Mike Merdinger got the win, improving to 6-4. He worked 6 innings, giving up 5 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 3.
With Los Angeles leading 6-4 in the top of the sixth, Rangel hit a fastball from Michinaga Sakamoto for a 2-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Stars ahead, 8-4.
In comments to the Los Angeles Gazette, Rangel admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
With the victory, the Stars upped their record to 61-50.
